House of Damnation is an organisation set up to support queer performance artists in Cornwall. Children in England who have experienced bullying performed 15% worse than other students at GCSE, and are twice as likely to not be in education, employment or training at age 16. With 45% of LGBT students experiencing bullying (of which 40% frequently truant) it follows that LGBTQ+ individuals are less likely to enjoy the same opportunities in life as their cisgender / heterosexual counterparts.
House of Damnation seeks to redress this imbalance by providing skills workshops held by experienced artists to equip budding LGBTQ+ performance artists with the skills and confidence they need to perform on stage.
The workshops will be free to artists, with funding coming from a mixture of grant funding and funds raised through performances and events. Artists will be given opportunities to perform at such events alongside established and experienced performers, allowing them the chance to earn money while putting their learning into practice and receiving mentoring.
